USES/ADVANTAGES OF CHEMISTRY

1. In agriculture: Chemistry helps to increase food production through the manufacture of some farm inputs like fertilizers, insecticides, insecticides. Also chemicals are produced in order to preserve processed food for a longer period of time.
2. In health sector: Chemistry helps to improve our health through the manufacture of medicines.
3. In transportation: It helps in the fast growing of world transportation through the manufacture of fuels and structural materials like alloys and steels.
4. Provision of materials for shelter: It provide materials such as cement, steel, iron, tiles and roofing materials.
5. Production of clothing: Chemical research help in the production of clothing such as rayon which is man-made and also in the manufacture of dye.
6. Help in military and space science: Chemistry contributes to the discovery and description of the theoretical bases for the behavior of chemical substances such as explosives used by the military. Ammunition technology applies the knowledge of chemistry to attain specific goals. It provide materials used in the building of rockets used in space science.

ADVERSE EFFECTS/DISADVANTAGES OF CHEMISTRY

1. Corrosion of iron: corrosion of iron is also called rusting of iron. Chemical reactions cause corrosion of iron, thereby destroying the properties and limit the use of such iron.
2. Pollution: It causes pollution to our environment through chemical wastes from industries, oil spillage, fumes from exhaust of vehicles and generators etc.
3. Drug abuse: It causes drug abuse through the production of drugs such as morphine, heroin, cocaine, tramadol etc.
