Term Definition
Doctor A qualified practitioner of medicine
Nurse A person trained to care for the sick or infirm
Patient A person receiving medical treatment
Surgeon A medical practitioner qualified to practise surgery
Operation A surgical procedure to treat a condition
Diagnosis The identification of the nature of an illness
Prescription A written order for the preparation and administration of a medicine
Ward A separate room in a hospital, typically one allocated to a particular type of patient
Ambulance A vehicle equipped for taking sick or injured people to and from the hospital
Emergency A serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action
Clinic A facility for outpatient medical treatment
Therapy Treatment intended to relieve or heal a disorder
Pharmacy A place where medicinal drugs are prepared or sold
Radiology The science dealing with X-rays and other high-energy radiation
Intensive care Specialized medical treatment for patients who are critically ill
Anesthesia Insensitivity to pain, especially as artificially induced by the administration of gases or the injection of drugs before surgical operations
