Family traits are features or characteristics which are transmitted from parents to offspring from one generation to another. In other words, this is what makes children to resemble their parent or grandparents. Family traits are the ways in which family members are alike.
Family traits are the genetic features that are continuous in the family from one generation to another. They are inherent in the offspring. Some traits that are genetically transferred from parents to offspring include skin colour, height, size of nose and some genetic diseases or abnormalities such as albinism, sickle-cell anemia and colour blindness. You may have your hair colour as your mother or your eye colour as your father. That means that your hair and eye colour are family traits. The concept of trait is fundamental in genetics, heredity and variation.
Apart from the health benefits of knowing our family traits, some traits can show whether people are closely related. One example is blood groups. For example, we can find out who the father of a baby is by testing blood samples from the mother, the baby and both possible fathers. The result will show who the father is.
