Meaning of Petroleum
Petroleum is a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons which is present in suitable rock strata and can be extracted and refined to produce fuels including petrol, paraffin and diesel oil. It is a naturally occurring liquid found beneath the earth’s surface that can be refined into fuel.
Petroleum is a fossil fuel because it is formed from plant and animal remains which settle on the floors of shallow seas and have under very great pressure for millions of years.
