Marking-Out Tools

These are hand tools used for marking out the required shapes of a particular metal from the sheet metal before cutting in the metal workshop. Examples include the following:

i. Try-square: The try-square is used for testing the squareness of a surface at 90o. It is also used for marking out lines at 90o to an adjacent surface.
ii. Centre square: This is one of the attachments on a combination set to locate the centres of the ends of round bars. The other attachments on a combination set are a protractor (for angular measurement), and a square head (for squareness testing).
