Energy Transfer When Work is Done
A body at rest (on a table) has potential energy by virtue of its position in the earth’s gravitational field. As it falls down to hit a plate on the ground, all its potential energy is transferred to the plate; hence it may break. During the motion of the body to the ground, its potential energy was being changed to kinetic energy.
