Distinguishing Characteristics of Organisms in Different Habitats

Living things must change with the environment if they want to survive in that environment. Organisms in aquatic, terrestrial and arboreal habitat possess the following unique features or characteristics which enable them to adapt in that particular habitat as shown below:

Characteristics of Organisms Found on Land

The following are the characteristics of organisms found on land:

  • Hairs, feathers and scales: These features are used for the regulation of body temperature. Species like mammals (including man) possess hairs, birds have feathers and reptiles (snakes, lizards, etc.) possess scales.
