SUMMARY OF GEARS
Gear is a toothed wheel used to transmit motion from one shaft to another, to change speed and direction in machines.
The types of gears discussed in this chapter are spur gear, helical gear, gear rack (rack and pinion), bevel gear, screw gear, miter gear, worm gear and internal gear.
Gears can be applied in the following mechanical devices: wood and metal work machines-lathes, on cranes, mechanical clocks, bicycle and motorcycles, hoists, cars and automobiles – gear box, rear axle.
