Environmental pollution is defined as the contamination of the physical and biological components of the earth/atmosphere system to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected.
Pollution is the release of substances into the environment in such quantities and for such duration that they can cause harm to humans, animals and plants, and their environment.
The three major types of pollution treated in this chapter are Water pollution, Air pollution, and Soil pollution.
Water pollution is defined as the release of harmful substances into bodies of water that makes water unsafe for human use and disrupts aquatic ecosystems.
Causes, consequences and control measures of water pollution have been fully discussed in this chapter.
